Dr Scholl's QTTO Sleeping Socks (寝ながらメディキュット) Review By Others

Stumbled upon this page of a HK magazine recommending the use of the Dr Scholl's sleeping socks.

Click on the image to see if you are able to make out what the article is about. =D

I shall translate the page into english with my best effort (and lousy english..). Pardon my translation and please correct me if there is any mistake. =D

Translation:

Other than supplementing this season's popular Thigh High Boots, Leggings and body-hugging Skinny Jeans with fall/winter 2009 makeup, having a pair of long and slim legs brings out the well-tailored pants, Zelia. Z said "To women today in the society, it seems difficult to achieve a pair of slim and long legs due to hours of sitting down at the office desk, resulting in low metabolism rate and poor blood circulation as well as accumulation of fats and water retention in the legs. This results in what is known as "thunder legs" or "taro legs". However, to live up to fashion expectations, there is a need for us to be dressed in different types of tights and mini skirts. Hence, we need to prevent water-retention in the legs. Some modelling friends from Japan recommended the use of a leg-slimming socks that is currently a popular item in Japan. Medi Qtto 夢の纖腿襪 is the no. 1 sellling 纖腿 brand in Japan. According to my friend, most of her friends own an average of 2-3 pairs of the socks. If you wear the socks to sleep, it helps not only to reduce water retention in the legs, but also firms the skin according to the different levels of pressure applied to the respective sections of the legs. It helps to improve blood circulation, reduce water retention, reduce tiredness, leaving you to feel a pair of lighter and slimmer legs.

Agnes b. ab heart collection

My first trip to Tokyo in August 2009 was a pretty rewarding trip for me as I returned with a few bags that only retails in Japan. However, some shops in Singapore brought in bags from Japan to retail at a slighter higher price to justify for their shipping costs.

One of the bags I got from Tokyo is the Agnes b. all-time favorite voyage tote bag. This may be a very common bag that you see people carry in the Singapore streets and campuses. However, during August 2009, Agnes b. Japan launched a limited edition ab heart version of the tote bag and I was lucky enough to be at Tokyo at the right time. ab heart were printed on the inner lining of the bag and a red round zipper with "b." embossed (see picture below) instead of the usual star zipper.

I bought the larger size so that it can hold A4 sheets. It is a pretty durable bag as I am the type of girl who likes to carry lots of barang barang with me everywhere I go. The ab heart paper bag that was used to hold the tote bag is equally gorgeous. Even though Singapore Agnes b. boutique retails the ab heart totes with PVC finish, it did not bring in the nylon tote that I got from Tokyo. However, it does retails alot of other ab heart voyage items.

Recently in November, Japan launched the christmas collection of the limited edition of the ab hearts bag in black, gold, pink and silver. These are the voyage tote bags with PVC finish. One bonus in getting this series is that the bag comes with a ab heart charm that usually costs few tens of dollars if you buy them separately. You can also visit the agnes b. Japan website for more details.

So if you are heading to Tokyo this festive season, remember to visit the Agnes b. boutiques to take a look at these new items on the shelves!!

This is one of the items in my wish list after visiting the Agnes b. website:

Wish I am at Tokyo right now... how about you?

Dr Scholl's QTTO Sleeping Socks (寝ながらメディキュット M) Review

I came across this item at most drugstores during my last Tokyo Trip in August 09. As I was not able to understand Japanese language at that time, I did not purchase the socks despite comtemplating for very long. It was not retailing at the price of normal socks as it claimed to have some medical purposes to shape your calves and provide better blood circulation for the legs.

These are some photos of the item:

After I came back to Singapore, curiosity spurred me to research on the socks online and I read that it was actually recommended in 女人我最大 by Jolin Tsai. The recommendations made me regret not getting one earlier when it could be the cheapest to buy from Japan directly (since it was Japan-made, 日本制). I then tried all means to get it shipped over but that would incur a significant base charge on the shipping. I even tried to get friends in Japan to send it over but it turned out not very successful due to some reasons.

During Nov 09, my brother went to Taipei and casually asked if I wanted anything from Taipei. At that time, I did not expect Taipei to carry this item as (to my best knowledge) Singapore did not retail this item yet. Being desperate, I showed my brother a photo of the socks and asked him to check whether the drugstores carry the item. To my surprise, they do sell the socks, but at a higher price compared to Tokyo. And yes, I got my brother to get it for me from Taipei. :)

I tried on the socks the night my brother touched down from his Taipei trip.

Review of the socks

There were some guides on the back of the box on how to wear the socks properly to maximise its effects. For instance, you must be careful not to 'scratch' the socks with your uneven nails and ensures that the ankles and knees are in line with the respective 'markings' on the socks. I also realised that the lavender-coloured socks are not only pretty to look at, the material is also of good quality (Later I found out that the socks are made of Nylon and Polyurethane). One reason for the good quality could be the socks were made in Japan. :D

While wearing the socks and lying on the bed, I could feel a certain degree of pressure on my ankles and calves. The pressure was greater on my ankles than my calves maybe due to my thunder calves (which was one of the reasons why I wanted the socks badly). There are supposed to be 3 different levels of pressure on different parts as per the illustration printed on the front of the box.

Later at night, the socks remained tight enough to 'squeeze' my calves but not so tight that they restrict the blood flow. At that moment, it really seemed like my calves were being 'shaped' by the socks. :) As I have pretty sensitive skin at the back of my knee, rashes started appearing due to hours of wearing the socks. Perhaps that was why the company came up with a newer but shorter version of the socks that ends below the knee. :)

I am merely into my 3rd week of using the socks and will update here on the effect of the socks on my thunder calves. :) So stay tuned!
